Ronald McDonald House Charities
About the charity
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is an independent Charity which aims to provide free 'home away from home' accommodation at hospitals, enabling families to stay close to their child and maintain a degree of normal family life. There are currently 14 Ronald McDonald Houses and 29 sets of Ronald McDonald Family Rooms across the UK, providing 400 bedrooms every single night of the year.
However, there is still a great deal to do. Many families still have to sleep on camp beds or in their cars in order to be close to their children, and RMHC is determined to help as many of these as possible.
A bit of background
Ronald McDonald House Charities Worldwide came into being due to an unlikely alliance that was formed in 1974 in the US between the Philadelphia Eagles football team, a Hospital in Pennsylvania and a McDonald’s Franchisee. On hearing the plight of a young couple whose child was seriously ill with cancer but who were unable to find accommodation near to the hospital so they could be with her, they together established the first “home away from home.”
After the success of the first Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald House Charities was founded in 1984, with the aim of extending this support to children and families who needed it across the world.
This concept quickly spread and in 1989, McDonald’s in the UK took the decision to set up a sister charity to provide the same service to UK families. RMHC in the UK is an independent, registered Charity providing Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Rooms across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Ugly Kid
A lady gets on a train with her baby A guy sitting across from her looks at the baby and starts laughing hysterically.
He says, "Lady, that's the ugliest kid I've ever seen. It looks like a monkey. What an ugly kid."
The lady freaks out, and goes running into the next car sobbing uncontrollably. The conductor sees her and comes over to her to console her.
He says, "Lady, relax...things are going to be all right...we'll get off at the next stop, get a cup of coffee...maybe we'll even find a banana for your monkey."
Membership
Why should you join?
Most of our members will tell you how much their circle of friends has grown since joining the club.
They all say how much they look forward to the meets.
They will tell you its a great club to belong to because we really do bring people together sharing our common interest in an outdoor way of life that we all enjoy.
Our meets are informal and relaxed. Some are more organised and have a purpose, such as walking a particular route, but most are simply weekends away with friends. Some walk their dogs, go swimming, explore the nearby towns or National Trust properties etc.
Some just go to chill out and spend their time catching up with friends old and new.
We are a social and sociable club where the emphasis is on our common enjoyment of caravanning and camping.
Annual membership is currently £5.00 per person, under 18s free.
